Plot Summary
In the second part of the film, Sidhu (Akshay Kumar) arrives in China with his friend Chopstick (Ranvir Shorey) and meets Sakhi (Deepika Padukone), a TV reporter who is also the reincarnation of Suzy, a Chinese princess. Sidhu is welcomed by the villagers as Liu Sheng, their savior who will free them from the tyranny of Hojo (Gordon Liu), a ruthless warlord who has enslaved them for years. Sidhu also meets his father Dada (Mithun Chakraborty), who had abandoned him as a child and is now a con artist posing as a Chinese monk.
Sidhu trains under two masters, Inspector Chiang (Roger Yuan) and Tang (Kohung Tang), to learn kung fu and prepare for his final battle with Hojo. However, he soon realizes that he is not the real Liu Sheng, but a pawn in Dada's scheme to get rich by fooling the villagers. He also learns that Hojo is actually his twin brother, who was separated from him at birth and raised by a Chinese family. Sidhu decides to fight Hojo anyway, with the help of Sakhi, Chopstick and the villagers. He manages to defeat Hojo and free the villagers from his oppression. He also reconciles with his father and brother, and confesses his love to Sakhi.
Review
The second part of Chandni Chowk To China is more action-packed than the first part, but also more illogical and absurd. The film tries to juggle Bollywood musical numbers with martial arts action and slapstick comedy, but fails at all three. The film suffers from poor editing, inconsistent tone, weak characterization and plot holes. The film also drags on for too long, with a runtime of 154 minutes.
The only saving grace of the film are the performances of the lead actors, especially Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone. Akshay Kumar delivers a typical comic hero role with his trademark charisma and energy. He also shows off his martial arts skills in some impressive fight scenes. Deepika Padukone plays a dual role of Sakhi and Suzy, and showcases her versatility and beauty. She also shares a good chemistry with Akshay Kumar. The supporting cast of Ranvir Shorey, Mithun Chakraborty, Gordon Liu and Roger Yuan are also decent in their roles.
The music of the film is composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Kailash Kher and Bohemia, and features some catchy songs like "Chak Lein De", "Tere Naina" and "S.I.D.H.U.". The songs are well-choreographed and shot in exotic locations. However, they also interrupt the flow of the story and seem out of place in a martial arts comedy.
Conclusion
Chandni Chowk To China is a film that tries to be too many things at once, but ends up being none of them. It is neither a good Bollywood masala nor a good Asian martial arts epic. It is a film that will disappoint both the fans of Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone, and the fans of kung fu movies. It is a film that you can watch online if you have nothing else to do, but don't expect too much from it.
